A lot has been revealed in the latest free comic book from DC, released on Free Comic Book Day. Titled Divergence (seemingly to  reference the current DC event Convergence) which gives readers a quality sneak peak into the future of DC’s three flagship titles, Batman, Superman and Justice League.

Batman focuses on what happens after Bruce Wayne’s fallout with The Joker in Endgame. With Bruce gone and thought to be dead, Jim Gordon of the Gotham PD stands up to don a new Bat-suit to be used to patrol the streets. After Jim Gordon having an axe in his chest in Endgame, he is back bringing his ex-marine/military experience to the field and is jacked with a new badass haircut. What does this mean for the city of Gotham having a new Batman in town?

Superman gives you a taste of what happens when the Man of Steel spends a lot of time testing his new solar flare ability around the world, when he is outed as Clark Kent/Superman by a powered thug who knows his true identity. What does this mean for Superman? Did his testing of his solar flare ability expose his identity to someone?

Justice League tosses readers a meaty steak of implication with their preview of the Darkseid / Anti-Monitor War. On the same night that the daughter of Zeus, Wonder Woman is being born, on the same island of Themyscira, hidden deep in a cave on the opposite side of the island, a daughter of Darkseid, Grail, is also being born of an Amazon woman. What does this mean for the Darkseid War?! Does this mean we have a Wonder Woman Yin and a Grail Yang?

I believe that this free issue is more than just a preview. It is really a great way to really bridge the gap between the current Convergence event and what is to come from the big changes ahead. I always love to read Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman as it is always stunningly drawn and beautifully crafted lore for the current Batman. This is also HUGE news for the upcoming Darkseid / Anti-Monitor War so this is really a great piece to hype people up about the event. Hope you picked an issue up on Free Comic Book Day!
